Dear Self,

I owe you an apology — an apology that is long overdue. I’ve been taking you for granted, ignoring your needs, and putting everything and everyone else ahead of you. And for that, I am genuinely sorry.

Today, it dawned on me how often I’ve sidelined your well-being for fleeting moments of pleasure, work demands, or the expectations of others. In doing so, I’ve neglected the most important relationship in my life — the relationship with you, my own self.

From feeding you a poor diet of convenient but unhealthy foods to forgoing exercise for my comfort, I’ve been treating you poorly. I’ve foregone sleep to scroll aimlessly through social media, sacrificed mental peace for stress, and ignored the warning signs that you’ve been giving me through minor ailments and emotional unease.

Even worse, perhaps, is how I’ve swept your mental health under the rug. Instead of facing stress, anxiety, or depression head-on, I’ve either ignored them or self-medicated, allowing these conditions to worsen.

And let’s not forget those skipped medical check-ups, despite knowing the importance of early detection and preventive care. I’ve neglected skincare and dental health, dismissing them as less important even though they’re integral to overall well-being.

If there’s still time, and I hope there is, I vow to make amends.

Starting now, I pledge to honor you by incorporating regular physical exercise into our life. No more excuses; our health is too important to be put on hold any longer.

I promise to nourish you with wholesome, balanced meals that provide the energy and nutrients you need to thrive. I understand that the choices I make at the dinner table have long-lasting repercussions on our health.

Sleep will no longer be an afterthought but a priority. Goodbye to late-nights and hello to a restorative night’s sleep that recharges body and mind.

I will also commit to mental self-care, seeking help when necessary. No more bottling up emotions or neglecting mental well-being. Therapy, meditation, or whatever it takes, we’ll do it.

Regular medical and dental check-ups will become a non-negotiable part of our schedule. I’ll listen to you more attentively, acknowledging symptoms instead of brushing them aside.

Last but not least, I vow to manage stress more effectively, whether that means setting healthier boundaries, taking up mindfulness techniques, or simply learning to say ‘no’.

So, dear self, here’s to a fresh start and a healthier, happier us. It won’t be easy, and it won’t happen overnight. But I promise to try, one day at a time, one choice at a time. Because you matter. We matter.

With love and newfound respect,

Yours lovingly, yourself. #thesocialentrepreneur
